Rear Engine Cooling

Modifications for Turbo and Pressurized Skymasters

Description of our rear engine cooling modification for Cessna 336/337 Skymasters to improve air flow to and thru the rear engine cylinders.

The rear engines on Skymasters, especially the Turbo Models (namely the Riley Super Skyrocket), usually run 20-30 degrees hotter than the front engines, because the air flow around the rear engine is less efficient.

Excess Heat is the Air cooled engine's worst enemy

In the process of working thru the rear engine cooling problems on many Skymasters including the TSIO 550 engine STC, we were able to design and test the installation of scoops on the top of the rear cowl & louvers on the rear cowl flaps and the lower rear cowl area. By using multiple scoops and louvers we are able to get the operating temperatures of the rear engine to within a few degrees of the operating temperatures of the front engine. This reduction of excess operating temperature increases the durability and dependability of the rear engine.
